[00:00:04] Speaker A: Hi, I'm Pastor Scott, and welcome to Bedtime Bible, a Westminster kids prayer podcast.
And I'll be leading you in a time to rest in God's presence in prayer, story and song. As we prepare for sleep, let's begin with a prayer.
Dear God, we are here with you now.
Help our minds to grow calm, our hearts to open wide, and our bodies to find rest.
We know you are with us in this moment of stillness.
[00:00:57] Speaker B: Amen.
[00:01:00] Speaker A: Now let's take a moment before we listen to the scripture to just calm our breaths and prepare.
I invite you to close your eyes, place your hands on your stomach, and feel the breath moving into your body and then slowly released.
Very good.
Loving God, thank you for this day.
Some parts were happy and some parts were hard.
In every moment you were with us.
Thank you for walking beside us when we laughed and when we cried, when we felt strong and when we felt tired.
We are grateful that nothing can separate us from your love.
[00:02:03] Speaker B: Amen.
[00:02:06] Speaker C: Our Bible story tonight is about God's covenant with Noah. And that's in Genesis chapter 6 to 9.
The world was amazing mess.
All the people God had created were doing all kinds of wrong things.
All except for one man named Noah.
When God's people heard each other, Noah helped them feel better.
When they ignored God, Noah prayed.
Noah said, God, I'm going to flood the whole earth, but I will save you and your family.
[00:02:48] Speaker A: Build an ark.
[00:02:49] Speaker C: Fill it with two of every kind of animal.
Noah obeyed God and got to work.
He measured and cut.
He sanded and nailed.
He filled the ark with two of every kind of animal.
Rain clouds gathered in the sky.
Noah's family hurried onto the ark with the animals.
God shut the door.
The rain began.
For 40 days and 40 nights, it rained inside the ark. Birds sang, dogs barked and snakes.
But one morning, everything was quiet.
The rain stopped.
Slowly, all the water dried up.
Noah and his family jumped off the ark and wiggled their toes in the dirt.
Birds flew, dogs ran, snakes slithered.
Every animal family came out of the ark.
Noah looked at the bright blue sky and saw a beautiful rainbow.
Then God said, this is my covenant to you and all people.
I promise never to flood everything again.
The rainbow is a sign of my promise.
[00:04:32] Speaker A: Let us pray.
[00:04:34] Speaker C: Dear God, it had to be hard for the animals and Noah and his family to be in the ark so many days and not know what was going to happen.
But they trusted God and we pray, Lord, in moments when we are confused or upset or not sure what's going on, allow us to be patient, to just stop and trust that you are there for us.
And you promised in your covenant that.
[00:05:07] Speaker A: You will carry us safely through.
[00:05:11] Speaker C: Thank you Lord for your love.
[00:05:15] Speaker B: Amen.
[00:05:26] Speaker D: The King of Love, my shepherd is whose goodness faileth never I nothing lack if I am his and he is mine forever.
Where streams of living.
[00:06:13] Speaker E: Water.
[00:06:15] Speaker D: Flow, My ransom soul he leadeth, and where the verdant pastures grow with food celestial feedth and so through all the length of day, thy goodness filleth never.
Good shepherd, may I sing thy praise within thy house forever.
[00:07:35] Speaker A: Gracious God, as the night falls and we close our eyes, bless our sleep with your peace.
Surround our family with your love.
Calm our thoughts and give us rest for tomorrow.
Keep us safe in your care now and always.
[00:07:57] Speaker B: Amen.
[00:07:59] Speaker C: Good night.
