[00:00:06] Speaker A: Welcome to Bedtime Bible, a Westminster kids prayer podcast. My name is Pastor Scott and I will lead you in a time to rest in God's presence in prayer, story and song as we prepare for sleep.
Dear God, we are here with you now.
Help our minds to grow calm, our hearts to open wide, and our bodies to find rest.
We know you are with us in this moment of stillness.
Amen.
I invite you to close your eyes, place your hands on your stomach and feel the breath moving into your body and then being slowly released.
Continue breathing slowly for a few moments.
Loving God.
Thank you for this day.
Some parts of our day were happy and some parts were hard.
In every moment you were with us.
Thank you for walking beside us when we laughed and when we cried, when we felt strong, when we felt tired.
We are grateful that nothing can separate us from your love.
Amen.
Our story tonight is about Abraham and Sarah. And it's in Genesis 15, 1, 12, 17 and 18, and chapter 17, verses 1 to 7 and 15 to 16.
Abram couldn't sleep.
He tossed and turned, but he was still awake.
Abram prayed.
God, you promised that Sarai and I would have a baby. We were very old.
We still don't have a baby.
Did you forget your covenant?
Did you change your promise?
God spoke to Abram.
Don't be afraid. I haven't forgotten my covenant. You will have a baby.
Abram was frustrated when God how long do we have to wait?
God told Abram, go outside.
Abram rolled out of bed and rubbed his eyes.
He walked outside.
Look up. Count all the stars in the sky, God said.
Abram frowned.
God, no one can count all the stars.
There are too many.
God's voice was gentle.
Abram, there are millions of stars in the sky.
One day, millions of people will call you their father.
Abram gulped.
Millions of children won't fit in my tent.
God laughed.
It will be many generations of people.
You won't see them all during your lifetime.
Abram, I'm giving you a new name. God continued. From now on, your name is Abraham, which means father of many.
And Sarai will be called Sarah someday. Millions of people will call her their mother.
Abram trusted God.
God would keep his covenant.
God does not break promises.
Let us pray.
Dear God, thank you for reminding us of the promises that you fulfill each day.
Sometimes we don't fulfill our promises.
Sometimes people don't always fulfill their promises to us.
But Abraham and Sarah are a reminder that you always fulfill your promises to us.
And even when we're not sure or it takes time Let us be patient.
Patient with our families, but most of all patient with you that all things work for good and that you will be there when we need you most.
We offer this prayer in Jesus loving name.
Amen.
