[00:00:04] Speaker A: Hi, I'm Pastor Scott, and welcome to Bedtime Bible, a Westminster kids prayer podcast.
And I'll be leading you in a time to rest in God's presence in prayer, story and song as we prepare for sleep.
So let's begin with a prayer.
Dear God, we are here with you now.
Help our minds to grow calm, our hearts to open wide, and our bodies to find rest.
We know you are with us in this moment of stillness.
Amen.
Now let's take a moment before we listen to the scripture to just calm our breaths and prepare.
I invite you to close your eyes, place your hands on your stomach, and feel the breath moving into your body and then slowly released.
Very good.
Loving God, thank you for this day.
Some parts were happy and some parts were hard.
In every moment you were with us.
Thank you for walking beside us when we laughed and when we cried, when we felt strong and when we felt tired.
We are grateful that nothing can separate us from your love.
Amen.
Now our story today is From Genesis, chapter two, verses four to 25.
Three, verses one to 24. And it's the story of Adam and Eve.
God scooped up dirt and molded it into a person.
God took a deep breath and breathed life into the dirt.
Adam's eyes popped open.
God smiled at the very first person ever created trees, and flowers sprang up from the ground.
I've created this garden for you, God told Adam.
I need you to take care of it. But don't eat from the tree in the middle of the garden. It's the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
God formed the dirt into animals of all shapes.
Adam named each one Turtle, Sparrow, Leopard.
God did not want Adam to be lonely.
So God took a rib from Adam and created a woman.
Adam named her Eve.
Adam and Eve tended the garden together.
They named even more animals.
Fish, cat, cow.
One day, the sneaky snake spoke to Eve.
I know why God told you not to eat from the Tree of knowledge, the snake taunted. If you do, you will know what God knows about good and evil, and you will be like God.
Eve sniffed a bright fruit.
How will it taste? She wondered.
How will it feel to know about good and evil?
She plucked two fruits and gave one to Adam.
Adam and Eve bit into the fruits.
Immediately. They knew they had disobeyed.
Ashamed, they covered themselves with leaves and hid from God.
That's our story for today.
Dear God, we pray that we will be grateful for all of your creation, that we will realize we are responsible for all of the animals and the trees and the bushes and the grass and all the world with God's help.
And we pray that we will never want to be God or listen to the snake, but just listen to God alone.
Bless us Lord, as we seek to be your children.
Amen.
