[00:00:06] Speaker A: Welcome to Bedtime Bible, a Westminster Kids Prayer podcast. My name is Pastor Scott and I will lead you in a time to rest in God's presence in prayer, story and song as we prepare for sleep.
Dear God, we are here with you now.
Help our minds to grow calm, our hearts to open wide, and our bodies to find rest.
We know you are with us in this moment of stillness.
Amen.
I invite you to close your eyes, place your hands on your stomach and feel the breath moving into your body and then being slowly released.
Continue breathing slowly for a few moments.
Loving God, thank you for this day.
Some parts of our day were happy and some parts were hard.
In every moment you were with us.
Thank you for walking beside us when we laughed and when we cried, when we felt strong, when we felt tired.
We are grateful that nothing can separate us from your love.
Amen.
[00:02:04] Speaker B: Joseph and his brothers is our story tonight, and it is from Genesis, chapter 37, verses 1 to 28.
Jacob had 12 sons, but he loved Joseph the most.
When Jacob gave Joseph a new colorful coat, Joseph showed it to his brothers.
The brothers knew Joseph was Jacob's favorite, and they were jealous.
Why does Joseph get a new coat and we don't? They complained.
I have an idea, growled Simeon. Let's get rid of him.
Joseph skipped along the path to see his brothers.
Here comes the dreamer, grumbled Reuben.
Joseph's brothers grabbed him and ripped off his colorful coat.
Stop.
Joseph cried.
What are you doing?
Joseph landed in a deep pit.
It was dark and scary.
Eleven pairs of eyes glared down at him.
Eleven voices laughed.
Eleven brothers stomped away.
Joseph sat and thought, why are my brothers so angry?
Joseph thought back to his dreams.
In one dream, he was a bundle of wheat. His brothers were bundles too, and they all bowed down to him.
In another, he saw the sun, moon, and 11 stars bowing down to him.
When he told his brothers about these dreams, they became angry.
The dreams meant that Joseph would be in charge of the whole family.
Are wheat and 11 stars bowed down to you?
[00:04:08] Speaker A: They asked.
[00:04:10] Speaker B: We will never bow down to you, Joseph.
Suddenly, Joseph was being lifted out of the pit.
My brothers changed their minds, thought Joseph.
Joseph's brothers did change their minds. They decided to sell Joseph to some traders passing by.
[00:04:33] Speaker A: That's it, laughed the brothers.
[00:04:36] Speaker B: Joseph is gone for good.
Let us pray.
Dear Lord, there are times where we don't get along with brothers or sisters or friends.
But we need to be nice.
We need to realize that each one of us is special in God's eyes.
And when one person gets a gift, even if it's a very fancy colorful coat.
It doesn't mean that the rest of the brothers or friends aren't loved by you as well.
Help us not be jealous but to love and support one another and to be happy for each other.
And we ask this in Jesus name.
Amen.
[00:05:28] Speaker C: Be still my soul, the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain Leave to thy God to order and provide in every change God's faithful will remain.
Be still my soul, Thy best Thy heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
[00:06:23] Speaker A: Gracious God, as the night falls and we close our eyes, Bless our sleep with your peace Surround our family with your love.
Calm our thoughts and give us rest for tomorrow.
Keep us safe in your care now and always Be still, my soul.
[00:06:49] Speaker C: The hour is hastening on when we shall be forever with the Lord.
[00:07:04] Speaker B: When.
[00:07:04] Speaker C: Disappointment, grief and fear are gone.
[00:07:13] Speaker A: Sorrow.
[00:07:14] Speaker C: For God Love's purest joys restore.
Be still my soul when change and tears are past all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
