[00:00:05] Speaker A: Welcome to Bedtime Bible, a Westminster kids prayer podcast.
My name is Pastor Scott and I will lead you in a time to rest in God's presence in prayer, story and song as we prepare for sleep.
Dear God, we are here with you now.
Help our minds to grow calm, our hearts to open wide, and our bodies to find rest.
We know you are with us in this moment of stillness.
Amen.
I invite you to close your eyes, place your hands on your stomach and feel the breath moving into your body and then being slowly released.
Continue breathing slowly for a few moments.
Loving God, thank you for this day.
Some parts of our day were happy and some parts were hard.
In every moment you were with us.
Thank you for walking beside us when we laughed and when we cried, when we felt strong, when we felt tired.
We are grateful that nothing can separate us from your love.
Amen.
Tonight I'm going to share the story of Joseph in Egypt. From Genesis, chapter 39, verse 20, all the way to chapter 41, verse 57, Pharaoh was sound asleep.
He dreamed of cows and grain.
The next morning, Pharaoh groaned. Oh, I don't understand my dreams. Seven skinny cows swallowed by seven fat cows.
Seven thin ears of grain swallowed seven plump ears.
As Pharaoh's cupbearer listened, he remembered Joseph when they were imprisoned together.
Joseph listened to the cupbearer tell about his dreams.
I dreamt I pressed three branches of grapes into Pharaoh's cup, the cupbearer told Joseph.
Joseph understood the dream.
In three days, you will be freed from prison.
Remember me when you see Pharaoh.
Now. The cupbearer ran up to Pharaoh.
I know who can tell you what your dreams mean.
Clink.
The jailer unlocked the prison door.
Tug.
Joseph was pulled out of prison and he shaved his face and changed his clothes.
Joseph stood in front of Pharaoh.
Pharaoh told Joseph about his dreams. Fat cows, skinny cows, plump grain, thin grain.
What does it mean? He pleaded.
God is telling you something important, joseph said.
Egypt will have seven years of good harvest with lots of food.
But then there will be seven bad years with almost no food.
That's awful.
Shouted Pharaoh.
What will we eat during the bad years?
Store food during the good years.
Eat it during the bad years, joseph said.
Pharaoh was amazed at Joseph's words.
He put Joseph in charge of storing food in Egypt.
Let us pray.
Dear God, there are times when the weather is harsh and the crops suffer.
Either there's so much grain that there's flooding, or like in this passage where it talks about it being so dry that nothing can grow.
But there are moments where everything is just perfect.
Guide us to be responsible to save when it is good so we have something for when life is hard to trust you, not only when everything is going our way, but when it's tough because we know you will find a way to help.
In Jesus name we pray.
Amen.
